Arizona House bill would allow university students to exclude clubs from funding

The Arizona House of Representatives preliminarily approved a bill that would allow state university students to exclude some student organizations or clubs from receiving money from their tuition and fees.

The bill was introduced by GOP Rep. Alexander Kolodin, who says Jewish students have encountered antisemitic speech from club members.

Jennifer Pawlik, a House Democrat, said the measure would be hard to apply in real-life scenarios due to how it is written.

"There are events that happen on a college campus where student funds pay for that, like a welcome ceremony. And they don't keep tabs on if somebody has paid, can they attend?” Pawlik said.

The bill needs a final vote in the House before going to the Senate.
