AZ House passes bill to create memorial for slain journalist Don Bolles

On a 47-9 vote, the state House of Representatives passed a bill to place a memorial of slain journalist Don Bolles in Wesley Bolin Plaza near the Arizona Capitol.

Arizona Republic reporter Don Bolles was assassinated in 1976 after a car bomb exploded while he was investigating a shady land deal.

The Wesley Bolin Plaza is home to more than two dozen plaques, statues and other memorabilia, including large guns from the USS Arizona and USS Missouri.

An identical measure honoring Bolles failed in the Legislature last year.

The bill now goes to the Senate, where its future is uncertain as Republican Sen. Jake Hoffman refused to give last year’s version a hearing.
