Phoenix Democrats pick nominees to replace Shah in Arizona House

Phoenix Democrats met Thursday night to nominate three candidates to fill a vacant House seat in Legislative District 5.

Democrats nominated elections attorney Mark Robert Gordon, progressive activist Brianna Westbrook, and Charles Lucking, an attorney who represents tenants facing eviction.

One of the three will be chosen by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to replace former Rep. Amish Shah, who resigned earlier this month.

The Board of Supervisors recently appointed Sarah Liguori to fill the district’s other seat in the House of Representatives after Rep. Jennifer Longdon resigned last month.

Both Gordon and Westbrook were also nominated for that seat.
