Billboard magazine recognized The Rebel Lounge as the “Best Venue Under 500-Capacity.” The Phoenix hotspot is a favorite venue for live music.
For this category, Billboard describes the lounge as a “desert oasis” and an “important tour stop for developing bands traveling Interstate 10.” Before it became The Rebel Lounge, the space was known as The Mason Jar.
Co-owner Stephen Chilton said the honor was pretty cool.
“You know, the list of venues on that list are some of the most iconic venues in the world and to be included in that was pretty remarkable for our small little venue," he said.
This isn’t the first time The Rebel Lounge has been honored. But Chilton says this one is special.
“This is one of the biggest ones. I mean, we've gotten a decent amount of national press over the years. But as far as honor like this, I don't, I can't think of anything — straight honor like this," he said.
Chilton says he thinks The Rebel Lounge received the honor for being able to take care of artists and being a favorite space for new musicians to come and play.
