A Maricopa County Superior Court judge has ruled that the city of Glendale cannot build a parking garage to help support the planned VAI resort. The Arizona Cardinals and the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority filed suit to stop the garage, citing a previous agreement with the city.
The parking garage would have been built near State Farm Stadium and the nearby VAI Resort, which is still under construction.
But the Cardinals and the Sports and Tourism Authority had reached an agreement with Glendale in 2016 that covers parking in the area. And they said building the garage without their consent would violate the agreement.
Judge Sara Agne agreed, granting a preliminary injunction. To construct the garage, the city will need to get written consent from the Cardinals and the sports authority.
In a joint statement provided to KJZZ News, the Cardinals and the authority said they are focused on protecting the fan experience and pedestrian safety and the ruling is a huge win for all their fans.
