Construction contract approved for phase 1 of renovations to Tempe Diablo Stadium

The 2024 edition of the Cactus League has about one week of games left before regular season baseball begins in the U.S.

Tempe City Council recently approved a construction contract for upgrades to the spring training and minor league operations home of the Los Angeles Angels.

The contract is to complete the first of a multi-phase renovation of the Tempe Diablo Stadium complex that was built in the late-1960s.

M.A. Mortenson Company is now set to start work on a clubhouse and player development area.

The $10.9 million Tempe is paying covers just more than half of the phase 1 budget. The city has another $2 million ready in case costs run higher.

The Angels would have to pay for any additional overage.

The project was previously put on hold due to a possible sale of the Angels, but is now moving forward.
