Tempe seeks public feedback on change to zoning to allow guest houses

Tempe officials want to know how residents feel about the possibility of a zoning change to allow more guest homes.

Mayor Corey Woods has identified affordable housing as one of the biggest challenges his city faces.

In 2019, Tempe limited where accessory dwelling units — zoning language for guest houses — could be built., Now the city is considering whether to expand regulations to allow guest houses on properties zoned for single-family residential.

Virtual and in-person public meetings to take feedback are scheduled for March 27 and April 2 and 8. An online survey is scheduled to be available next week.

Officials say public input will be used to help shape a final draft of the proposal for presentation to the City Council.
