Up in Flagstaff, many residents continue to face intense snowy and rainy weather conditions. While the National Weather Service does recognize snowfall as being “fairly rare” during the Easter holiday, the agency acknowledges its occurrence for this year.
The agency also forecasts a high chance of precipitation occurring on Monday.
Matt Salerno is a meteorologist with the agency based in Phoenix.
“It's really just the cold air associated with the storm system. Usually at those elevations, it's a lot easier to get the colder air moving in with these systems and they can produce heavy bursts of snow," he said.
Between late Saturday and Monday, snow levels are expected to be between 5,500 and 6,000 feet. Salerno suggests that those traveling to the high country should give themselves extra time as a result of the snow.
