Southern Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva has been diagnosed with cancer.
The Democrat announced Tuesday morning that his congressional offices remain open for constituents while he seeks treatment. Grijalva said he’d sought medical treatment for a persistent cough that was first diagnosed as pneumonia before doctors discovered the unspecified cancer.
Grijalva said services will continue without interruption as he undergoes treatment. And he said he is grateful for support and asked that his family’s privacy be respected.
“My congressional office remains open and the many services we provide for our constituents continue uninterrupted. I am in regular communication with my staff and I continue to work as I undergo treatment. It is a privilege to serve as a Representative for the people of Arizona and I take this responsibility very seriously,” he said in a statement.
