The 20th annual Pat’s Run is Saturday, April 13, in Tempe. Nearly 30,000 people will take part in the race honoring Pat Tillman, the Arizona Cardinals’ player who walked away from a lucrative contract to join the U.S. Army after 9/11. He was killed by friendly fire in 2004.
Mesa resident William McGowan has participated in every Pat’s Run so far, since the first one in 2005.
“It’s a special race,” said McGowan. “It really is near and dear to my heart. You can go once a year and say a prayer at the beginning of the race and, ‘This one’s for Pat.’”
The run supports the Pat Tillman Foundation’s scholarship program, acting as its signature fundraiser.
