Despite last week’s ruling by the Arizona Supreme Court that the state’s 1864 near-total ban on abortions supersedes a more recent 15-week ban, there are still lots of questions about what comes next, legally — and when.
The court gave Planned Parenthood 14 days to explore any remaining legal issues from a lawsuit challenging the territorial-era ban in the 1970s, before Roe v. Wade was decided. There are also questions of whether state lawmakers may take action on the issue this week.
