Peoria schedules meetings and seeks comments on proposed changes to city general plan

Peoria officials want to make major updates to the text and maps of the city’s general plan.

Proposed changes are available online and a 60-day window to give feedback is now open.

A city’s general plan lays out its aspirational vision. The plan guides future decisions on land use, public services, infrastructure and resource management.

Peoria officials have detailed their proposed changes in a nearly 150-page document.

Officials say most of the remaining open space in Peoria is state trust land, and a key amendment would redesignate roughly 8,300 acres.

Officials have scheduled an open-house meeting for 6 p.m. on April 23 at Rio Vista Recreation Center, and a virtual meeting at 6 p.m. on April 25.
