Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appoints Junelle Cavero Harnal to AZ Legislature

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Democrat Junelle Cavero Harnal to fill a vacancy in the Arizona House of Representatives.

Cavero Harnal will fill a vacancy in South Phoenix’s Legislative District 11 created when Marcelino Quiñonez resigned earlier this month.

Cavero Harnal is an executive with My Code, a nationwide multicultural media company. She has also worked on several campaigns for Democratic presidential candidates, including Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

According to House Democrats, Cavero Harnal’s swearing in is scheduled for Wednesday morning. That would give Democrats a full caucus as they are expected to resume attempts to repeal Arizona’s near-total abortion ban when lawmakers return to the Capitol on Wednesday.

Cavero Harnal will complete Quiñonez’s term, which ends in January 2025. She is also seeking re-election to the House on the November ballot.
