Maricopa County Animal Care and Control to open East Valley shelter in May

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control will permanently close its animal shelter at Loop 101 and Rio Salado Parkway on Monday.

It will be replaced by a new, larger shelter on South Lewis and Baseline Road that’s scheduled to open May 2.

It is 84,000 square feet and will feature 346 kennels and 21 yards.

The Rio Salado shelter is waiving adoption fees for dogs through Sunday.
