The Tempe Union High School District has a program called TAPP, which provides support to pregnant and parenting teens enrolled in high school.
As part of that, one high school is now offering trauma informed care training.
The district has signed an agreement with Southwest Human Development to offer the training at Marcos de Niza High School.
Southwest Human Development is a nonprofit that offers services to support caregivers for the first five years of their child’s life.
The organization’s trauma-informed care training helps people understand how young children are affected by trauma, feelings and behaviors they may exhibit, and how caregivers can help.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, children born to adolescent parents are more likely to face physical and behavioral challenges throughout their lives.
