Phoenix's open-fire ban in desert parks and mountain preserves takes effect May 1

Phoenix is implementing its  annual open-fire ban in the city’s desert parks and mountain preserves starting May 1.

City officials say the ban also applies to smoking and charcoal fires.

They say propane or gas grills may be used, but only in established picnic areas.

The ban does not apply to the city's flatland parks.

Maricopa County’s open fire ban also goes into effect May 1.
