Cindy McCain says a 'full-blown famine' is taking place in Gaza in new interview

Challenges getting humanitarian aid into Gaza continue as the war between Israeli forces and Hamas persists. Among those organizations trying to provide aid includes the World Food Programme, headed by Cindy McCain.

In a pre-recorded interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” that aired on Sunday, McCain indicated the lack of access to food and water continues to spread.

"Whenever you have conflict like this and emotions rage high, and things happen in a war, famine happens. And so what I can explain to you is that there is famine, full-blown famine in the north. And it's moving its way south," she said.

McCain also said she spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to request further access to distribute food into the region.
