The Arizona Department of Transportation has finished blasting operations as part of its widening of I-17 north of Phoenix. The project spans a 23-mile stretch from Anthem Way to Sunset Point.
ADOT spokeswoman Laura Douglas shared that 62 blasts took place in the course of more than a year.
Douglas says the earth that was blasted away will go back into the project, which includes eight miles of reversible, or so-called flex, lanes and 15 miles of freeway widening. Construction will also take place on 12 bridges, with two being completely replaced.
The project is scheduled for completion next year.
