County attorney says police have not yet submitted evidence against ASU protesters

Prosecutors have a year to refile dozens of trespassing cases against pro-Palestine demonstrators arrested late last month at Arizona State University.

A university spokesperson has said that ASU police are in the process of submitting evidence against more than 70 people accused of ignoring police orders to leave an illegal encampment on the Tempe campus.

In a news conference on Wednesday, County Attorney Rachel Mitchell was asked if she’ll pursue charges.

“At this point, we do not have a submittal related to the protesters on ASU’s campus. So I can’t even speculate whether we would or not,” Mitchell said.

Probable cause statements made by ASU police against demonstrators appear to have been mostly copied and pasted into court documents.

A defense attorney told a judge on Tuesday that no probable cause statements were filed against three demonstrators before they were due in court.
