Gilbert police say a 19-year-old man fell from parking garage and died

Police say a 19-year-old man died after falling from the top of a parking garage in Gilbert’s downtown heritage district late Monday.

Another nearby garage has been the scene of alleged assaults involving teens and a thrown fire extinguisher that struck a pedestrian.

Gilbert police say they got a 911 call just after 11 p.m. saying someone had fallen more than 50 feet from the top of a parking garage on the east side of downtown.

Officers found Mubasher Masood in critical condition and he was taken to a hospital.

The investigation remains active while surveillance videos are analyzed, but police say Masood was allegedly intoxicated when he got to the garage with friends.

Masood reportedly got out of their vehicle right away. He then tried to lift himself onto a 4-foot ledge of the garage’s top wall but lost his balance immediately.
