CDC warns of salmonella outbreak related to contact with backyard poultry

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  is investigating a multistate outbreak of salmonella following contact with backyard poultry, like chickens or ducks.

So far, one person in Arizona has been infected. And while no deaths have been reported, 33 people have been hospitalized.

According to the CDC, almost half of the sickened people were under 5 years old.

The agency emphasizes supervising children around flocks, safe egg handling and handwashing.
