NCAA, conferences settle student-athlete lawsuit for $2.8 billion

The NCAA and the country’s biggest sports conferences announced a $2.8 billion settlement to pay former and current athletes. With the latest update, the conversation surrounding benefits received by student-athletes shifts.

Former Arizona State swimmer Grant House served as the main plaintiff in the lawsuit arguing the NCAA and its members committed violations of federal antitrust laws.

According to CBS Sports, he became involved in the lawsuit after being approached following swim practice.

Such violations revolved around the NCAA and its members restricting athletes from receiving endorsement money.

A federal judge must still approve the case and the plaintiffs can decide to agree to the terms.

The University of Arizona Athletics Department released a statement saying it embraces the change as a new opportunity.
