Arizona gas prices dip slightly before Memorial Day

Arizona saw a 5-cent decrease in gas prices over the last week leading into Memorial Day weekend.

While the national average gas prices increased by a penny, Arizona prices dropped to an average of $3.92 a gallon for regular. Prices dropped due to California’s refinery maintenance period ending during a time gas prices usually rise. AAA’s spokesperson Julian Paredes.

“Demand for gas peaks during summer travel season,” he said, “so it might fluctuate with all the extra demand for the holiday and probably settle somewhere down. This is the time when gas prices are pretty high generally speaking.”

Paredes says the refineries coming back online will be a big help for the Southwest region, as gas was really expensive for a good period of time.
