Phoenix could spend $500,000 on art at Paradise Valley Park

The city council will vote on a contract this week worth $500,000 with Donald Lipski for design, fabrication and installation of artwork for Paradise Valley Park near State Route 51 and Bell Road.

Lipski’s work is on display at Terminal 3 at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. He created a giant pair of aviator sunglasses weighing 2,000 pounds. The mirrored lenses hover in front of a 90-foot wide painting of a sky with clouds.

No design is yet available for the Paradise Valley Park contract, but the artwork is expected to be made of durable materials, serve as a primary focal point and seek inspiration from the nearby Musical Instrument Museum
