A plane crashed near the top of Picacho Peak on Saturday morning, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. The crash resulted in the death of a 68-year-old man from Oro Valley.
Agencies including Avra Valley Fire and a search and rescue team are involved in the recovery effort. According to the sheriff’s office, the scene will be turned over to the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration.
Picacho Peak State Park will remain closed after the crash until further notice.
