The National Weather Service reports that the first two weeks of June in Phoenix have been hotter than normal.
According to Weather Service data, the normal high for Phoenix in June is 104.2 degrees Fahrenheit. In the first 15 days of June, 13 days were 105 degrees or hotter, and five days exceeded 110.
Arizona's monsoon season officially began June 15, but no rain is forecast for Phoenix this week.
Other parts of Arizona could get precipitation.
“Chances for isolated to scattered thunderstorms over the high terrain of eastern Arizona primarily, but that does not rule out the possibility that portions of southeastern Arizona perhaps the Tucson area could see some of those thunderstorms pushing into their area," said Ted Whittock is with the National Weather Service.
The Weather Service in Phoenix also says the start of the monsoon season doesn’t necessarily translate to immediate chances for rain.
Meteorologist Chris Kuhlman says, statewide, monsoon rains in June are typically hit or miss.
“Right now it looks like it might start as early as June 21 so it’s a little bit earlier than normal I would say. It doesn’t mean that Phoenix is going to get anything later this week," said Kuhlman.
Arizona monsoon season lasts from June 15 until Sept. 30.
Temperatures in the Valley will continue to reach lower triple digits in the Valley early in the week. Whittock says temperatures will heat back up in the latter half of the week.
A cooling trend during the first part of this week will push temperatures temporarily back to normal for Monday-Wednesday. However, temperatures will heat back up later this week with highs likely topping 110° across the lower deserts by Friday. #azwx #cawx pic.twitter.com/nQhPNrk95V
