Phoenix Sky Harbor had a record amount of travel for the month of May as it saw 4.7 million people pass through it.

That is a 12.5% increase over May 2023.

The airport's Greg Roybal says overall passenger traffic is also up about 8% compared to a year ago.

"If we continue with this increase in passenger traffic, we will probably reach that 50-million passenger mark. That’s a pretty heavy number for us," Roybal said.

Last year saw a total of 48.6 million people pass through. Roybal added the numbers are likely caused by people still wanting to travel following COVID-19 lockdowns.
