According to AAA Arizona, the state continues to see lower gas prices per gallon than the national average of about $3.54.
AAA Arizona spokesperson Julian Paredes said it’s unclear whether current trends will continue.
“This is actually kind of defying expectations because a lot of people travel for the holiday, oil prices are higher, we have, like, a hurricane in the Gulf Coast,” said Paredes. “So you would think gas prices would be going up.”
But he said it’s possible that the blasting heat we’re experiencing is keeping more people inside and off the roads.
“There’s less demand for gas across the Southwest, possibly because it is so hot outside,” Paredes said.
And of course, prices vary throughout the state with the highest in Graham County, and Yuma County currently seeing the cheapest gas at $3.37 a gallon.
