Man accused of impersonating a firefighter, giving false evacuation orders

No evacuations are underway, just warnings, for residents near the Hillside Fire burning three miles north of the community of Congress in Yavapai County.

False orders were given out by a man allegedly impersonating a firefighter.

Patrick Parent was arrested for allegedly going door to door telling people to evacuate.

Kristin Greene is a spokesperson for the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. She says officials suspect impairment but are waiting on results.

“We do know that he was a former firefighter but had been let go by the department a couple months ago. But other than perhaps not [being] in the right frame of mind [we] really have no idea what the motivation would be," Greene said.

Greene says only members of the Sheriff’s Office would give those evacuation orders, not firefighters.

The Hillside Fire is still zero percent contained, but officials announced that after more accurate mapping, the blaze that was measured to be 1,200 acres Thursday was corrected to be just over 800.
