Police and fire crews respond to an apartment fire near 48th Street and Warner Road on July 15, 2024.

Phoenix police responded this morning to an apartment fire in Ahwatukee that left three people dead.

The two women and one man were found in a second-floor bedroom of the three-level complex.

"As crews got in there, they did have to do a search and rescue, and that’s when they did find those three adults," said Fire Captain Tom Keller

Keller says the fire did not spread past the second floor. Detectives are trying to determine how the victims died.

"The investigators are still determining if it was inhalation or something else," said Keller.

The victims were not immediately identified, and one of the bodies had obvious signs of trauma, according to investigators.
