July 15, 2024: Evacuation orders lifted

Firefighters continue their efforts in putting out the Freeman Fire burning north of Tucson.

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management says the fire has burned about 32,000 acres and is 65% contained as of Monday morning.

Evacuation orders have been lifted since Sunday morning. According to the agency, the fire began after a lightning strike took place near the Oak Well Camp. A second lightning strike then caused the fire to grow.

A containment line has been established in the area of Willow Springs Ranch and Freeman Roads. Additional medic support teams arrived on the incident Sunday. In addition, Freeman Fire resources are being used to support any new starts in the area.

Area residents can receive emergency alerts by registering for the Pinal Emergency Notification System.
