The discount retail chain, Big Lots, plans to close 13 stores in Arizona.
Five out of six Phoenix locations will stop selling furniture, housewares and grocery items. The only Phoenix store without a website banner announcing its closure is at 35th Avenue and Thunderbird.
In a June filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Big Lots said it could close up to 40 stores nationwide, citing a drop in consumer spending, especially in high-ticket discretionary items.
Stores in Glendale, Peoria, Laveen, Mesa, Scottsdale, Tucson and Flagstaff also have closing banners on their websites. Big Lots has not released a list of which stores will close across the country or when. On Tuesday, an employee at a Phoenix store told KJZZ News they do not yet know when their location will shut its doors for good.
