Extreme heat is going away this week as temperatures begin to drop in metro Phoenix. The Valley could see high temperatures in the 70s this weekend.
And the National Weather Service says there is a possibility of showers and thunderstorms later this week.
“We’re gonna be seeing some cooling down going into the middle of the week. It looks like we’ll have highs below 100 degrees as early as Tuesday," said Alex Young with the National Weather Service.
Young says high temperatures might cool into the lower 90s and upper 80s.

Friday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
