The Maricopa County Community College District is moving its headquarters after more than 30 years near Broadway Road and Interstate 10 in Tempe. The colleges’ governing board approved the $27 million purchase Tuesday.
District office operations are headed south but not going far. The board approved the purchase of two buildings and a parking structure from Widewaters South Priest Drive Company LLC. Widewaters had purchased the building from Target Corporation for $20.5 million in August, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.
Records show ongoing HVAC and plumbing issues had been adversely affecting district employees at their current location. A maintenance study determined that necessary updates would cost around $55 million.
The new headquarters will be near I-10 and Warner Road.
