Alexa Routines
Listen to KJZZ using Alexa Routines
What are Alexa Routines?
Alexa Routines allow your Amazon Alexa device to automatically perform favorite actions whenever a desired trigger occurs.
Triggers can be voice commands, a time of day or even a smart home device like a smart light or motion sensor.
Routines enable you to make your favorite Alexa features happen automatically as part of your daily routine.
Custom KJZZ Alexa Routines for you
Here are three KJZZ Alexa Routines that you can try today that demonstrate some of the different ways you can use Routines:
(Note: You must already have the KJZZ Alexa Skill enabled in order for these routines to work.)
By alarm: 'Good morning, KJZZ'
An Amazon Echo makes for an excellent bedside alarm clock, even if it isn’t a model with a built-in clock display. Just say, “Alexa, set an alarm for [time],“ or “Alexa, wake me up at [time].” When your alarm sounds, you can say, “Alexa, stop alarm,” or, “Alexa, cancel,” or even, “Alexa, snooze for 5 minutes,” to dismiss the alarm.
By adding the “Good morning KJZZ” Routine, your Alexa device will automatically tell you the time, date and weather and then play KJZZ for you any time you dismiss your morning Alexa alarm.
By phrase: 'Good afternoon, KJZZ'
You can also build Routines that trigger when you speak a preset phrase. The "Good afternoon, KJZZ" Routine will respond to the phrase, "Alexa, good afternoon," by telling you the time and weather, and then playing the latest episode of KJZZ's The Show podcast, followed by KJZZ's live feed.
By schedule: 'Good evening, KJZZ'
You can set Routines to trigger at specific times of day and specific days of the week. The "Good evening, KJZZ" Routine is built to automatically play KJZZ for you at the end of your workday, every weekday at 5:30 p.m. (Below are directions on how to customize this routine to your lifestyle allowing you to tune the start time and days to your own personal schedule.)
How to install an Alexa Routine
Clicking any of the links above will take you to a dedicated page at Amazon with a QR code. When you scan the QR code using the Alexa app and your smartphone's camera, Alexa will download the routine and walk you through the steps to enable and customize it.
How to edit and customize a Routine
It’s easy to customize installed Routines to make them perfect just for you. Use this next Routine as an example for how you can build a routine to feature any of your favorite KJZZ or NPR podcasts and livestreams.
KJZZ Power Routine
Once installed, you can use the command, "Alexa, get me caught up with KJZZ," and the "KJZZ Power Routine" will play the latest podcast news from KJZZ and NPR, and then invoke the KJZZ Alexa Skill to give you live KJZZ.
