On Tuesday, Arizona and Nevada’s governors sent a joint letter to California Gov. Gavin Newsom asking him to reconsider a bill they say could cut off gasoline supplies to both states and raise fuel prices.
Both governors are urging Newsom to delay action until there’s more discussion with industry experts and state energy offices.
The letter refers to a report from the California Energy Commission, which says that the measure could create gas shortages and drive up prices.
Gov. Katie Hobbs wrote that higher rates at the pump aren’t something Arizonans may be able to shoulder along with already high living costs.
The same CEC report cites warnings from refiners that new inventory requirements could ultimately lead to refinery closures.
Nevada’s Joe Lombardo echoed worry that the bill would damage the economy, adding that neither state should have to pay for what he called California’s bad policies.
