APS dispatched 30 of its employees to Florida on Friday to assist in the recovery efforts after Hurricanes Helene and Milton devastated much of the southeast.
Mike Poe, a construction maintenance supervisor with APS, said there’s a lot of work to be done, but that crews will help out in any way they can.
“Obviously there’s a lot of damage assessment the crews in Florida have to do,” he said, “but our guys are gonna be repairing a lot of the downed power lines, broken poles, backyard stuff - anything that we can get ourselves into and help out with, we’re gonna be trying to help out with.”
Crews will also be repairing some underground electrical components affected by the salt water and the flooding, according to construction maintenance supervisor Robert Houle.
Houle said safety is always a top concern for APS, but especially when sending crews into a hurricane zone.
“Risk awareness is what these guys do every day assessing situations,” he said, “and we’ll be that engaged in there with safety coaches as well.”
APS said crews are expected to arrive on Saturday morning and may be there for up to a month.
