ASU will work with the U.S. Department of Defense to investigate global trends in nontraditional warfare. Projects from the team will partly focus on military assistance and emerging technologies such as virtual and augmented reality.
The university will lead a national team with technologists, social scientists and educators to support the department’s Irregular Warfare Center in Washington, D.C.
U.S. Sens. Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema said the DOD’s $24 million investment will be critical for “maintaining U.S. national security amid evolving global threats.”
ASU said it’s worked with the department before with over $55 million in DOD sponsored project expenditures across more than 250 projects. It also said over 200 of the university’s faculty experts are engaged in defense programs.
