Attorney General Kris Mayes filed a lawsuit against an assisted living facility in Pinal County on Monday.

Olive Branch Assisted Living, its owner Russell Appleton, and other related companies he owns are at the center of the suit.

In court documents, Mayes’ office claims the Casa Grande facility discriminated against a resident seeking behavioral health services.

She was removed due to an HIV diagnosis received while living there. The facility also allegedly disclosed her medical information to others and retaliated when she filed a complaint.

Mayes called this kind of bias “an ugly relic” of the past and encouraged anyone facing housing discrimination to report it to her office.

Attempts to reach Olive Branch for comment were unsuccessful by the time of recording.
