Some West Valley residents will now be getting certain Amazon orders dropped off by flying drones.

Customers who live near the company’s Same-Day site in Tolleson can get items weighing 5 pounds or less delivered by drones in under an hour. Amazon’s Same-Day Delivery site functions as both fulfillment centers and delivery stations, meaning the company can send items to customers quickly.

Amazon says its drones “went through an aerospace-grade certification process” with the FAA to ensure safety.

The capability marks the first time Amazon delivery drones are taking flight in Arizona. In a statement, the company said it is using drones that are 50% quieter to the human ear following noise complaints over its drones in Texas.
