Forty-seven attorneys general from around the country have called on the FCC to improve its Robocall Mitigation Database. Arizona’s Kris Mayes joined the letter.

Voice service providers are public or private entities that provide telephone services.

They are required to register to the database, but the attorneys general claim there are little enforcement measures to prevent bad actors from sending illegal robocalls.

In a statement, Mayes said that robocalls are a gateway to fraud and scams and that requiring accurate data and enforcing meaningful penalties will help protect consumers.

The letter proposed measures the commission could take to make the database better, such as implementing form deadlines, validating providers and blocking those who don’t comply.
