Poultry on a commercial farm in Pinal County have tested positive for avian influenza, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services and Arizona Department of Agriculture.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been tracking an outbreak of avian flu across the U.S. since 2022. But according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data, this is the first time a commercial poultry flock in Arizona has been impacted.
According to the state department of agriculture, the Pinal County farm is under quarantine and eggs from the farm have not entered the food supply.
Human infections of avian flu are rare, but possible, according to the CDC.
The Arizona Department of Health Services says the risk to the general public is low from the confirmed poultry infections in Pinal County, though workers from the impacted farm should take precautions.
