If you ever traveled Third Street near Osborn Road in Phoenix, you likely spotted the neon Ziggie’s Music sign. The store closed down earlier this year after nearly a century in business. But now the sign is getting a second life.
“Many people know the sign and its association with an iconic business. And so there's been so much interest since it was taken down. What's going to happen to it?" Vic Linoff said.
Linoff is with the Mesa Preservation Foundation, which obtained the signature item shortly after the store closed.
Linoff’s group has been instrumental in restoring other notable neon signs, like Mesa’s iconic Diving Lady.
“The descendants of the owner, the man that started the business, wanted to assure that the sign would be preserved," he said.
Linoff says a local sign company is assessing the Ziggie’s Music sign for damage and making a protective cage. The sign will go into storage until the Mesa Preservation Foundation can decide on its permanent home.
“It represents a business that, in its own way, made good contributions to the music scene in the Valley," he said.
