Gov. Katie Hobbs was in Tucson Friday morning touting the Arizona is Home program. It provides financial assistance to low- and middle-income first-time homebuyers.

Hobbs says the program has helped more than 350 families, but added that there’s still a lot of work to be done to make housing more affordable in the state.

“This is not a problem that we got to overnight and we’re not gonna fix it overnight," Hobbs said. "So the investments we’ve made have been really critical, but we need to continue those investments. We’re gonna keep pushing them and you’ll see [that] in our budget next month.”

The Arizona is Home program provides those who qualify with down payment assistance and relief on mortgage rates. Hobbs first announced a $13 million appropriation to get the program up and running in April.

Hobbs said there's still room for people to apply for the program.

"The initial funding was able to help up to 500 families and so far, 362 families have been able to purchase a home," Hobbs said. "So hopefully more folks will learn about this and take advantage of it."
