Axon has cancelled the groundbreaking of its new headquarters set for Friday in north Scottsdale. The company says it is now looking to leave Arizona after 30 years of operations here.
The homegrown Taser maker had planned to build a new corporate campus that included 1,900 apartments and condos.
Axon says the decision to abandon the project is due to a ballot referendum initiative. Last month, a pro-union political organization called Worker Power said it helped to gather enough signatures to allow voters to decide if they want to veto the development.
Worker Power said they are concerned the zoning will significantly increase the value of land, which was bought from the Arizona State Land Trust. Scottsdale City Council approved the development in November.
