A Laveen composting company sued by Maricopa County for making mulch on land not zoned for the activity is set to shut down this month.
The operators of Arizona Green Guys have agreed to a settlement.
The mulching operation started last year. But the work violates zoning regulations and got the property labeled a public nuisance.
Now the owners can’t bring any more compostable material onto the property, and they must remove most of the mulch.
Work to accomplish this is only allowed during daytime hours on weekdays. Sifting has to stop and a grinder must be taken away by Jan. 20.
In a statement, Supervisor Steve Gallardo said Maricopa County had to act because company operations were affecting the health and wellbeing of residents.
