More than $84 million in additional federal funding will be used to expand capacity at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. That expansion includes the construction of a new taxiway bridge.
Sky Harbor’s busiest year ever was 2024, surpassing over 50 million passengers who had traveled through the airport.
The new 2,100-foot taxiway bridge, which planes would use to seamlessly travel between the north and south airfields, is meant to accommodate an increase in air traffic and travelers.
With a nearly $333 million budget, the bridge is expected to be completed in 2027.
Around $200 million of the construction budget comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed by Congress in 2021. That bill puts $15 billion toward supporting airport projects across the U.S.
