Some Arizona residents are getting calls from scammers who are pretending to be a representative from their bank.

At least four people in Yavapai County were targeted last weekend.

The scam calls tell people their accounts have been compromised and that they need to withdraw the money and deposit it into a new account.

Paul Wick, spokesman for the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, said a bank teller stopped a woman from being a victim when she walked into her bank with the scam artist still on the phone.

“The would-be victim pointed at their phone," Wick said. "That was when the teller knew that something was going on, so the teller said loudly, ‘they do not have money in the account.’”

Wick said people who fell for the scam lost an average of $25,000 each. He added that anyone who gets a call like that should go to the bank directly and ask if their account has been compromised.
