A Canadian restaurant chain has made its initial foray into the United States. Their first U.S. location opened Saturday in Chandler.

Founded in Calgary in 1979, Edo Japan has more than 200 locations throughout Canada. Specialties include teriyaki bowls, bento boxes, sushi and boba.

So … what brought them to Chandler? CEO David Minnett says the city’s population and development are a good match for the fast-casual chain.

“The demographics seem to be a great fit for us and we love the mix of retail, industrial, residential. We think it's perfect just for both lunch and dinner," he said.

The Chandler location opened under the name Edo Japanese Grill. It’s located just northeast of Chandler Boulevard and Loop 101.
