What was once the Paradise Valley Mall is in its second phase of coming back to life.

This time, as a mixed-use development, known just as PV, that blends housing, shopping and community events.

Kristen Hernandez with RED Development said the newest group of restaurants and services at the 100-acre redevelopment prominently features local operators by design.

“There's so many tenants, retailers that are open now,” Hernandez said. “And the activity from the community is wild already, and the attendance of events. We have weekly workouts in the park, just so many things activating out here that hundreds of people are showing up.”

Hernandez said the company is also partnering with Visit Phoenix to bring concerts and other events to the central park space in the coming years.

Mikis Troyan got his first job at the mall that used to be here. Now, he co-owns a restaurant called Cala in Old Town Scottsdale.

“So it's kind of a really cool experience to be part of the rebirth,” Troyan said. “And we're really excited to bring something to North Phoenix that I think it’s going to do really well here.”

He and co-owner Justin Massei are excited to test fresh ideas in a new, second location.

“Seeing the local community come together for this project made the decision very easy,” Massei said. “Seeing all these beautiful condos, apartments – I mean, the walkability that the residents will have here and just the options, you know.”

The pair added that the mixed-use location is a chance to experiment, which Too Sweet Cakes owner Shelbi Geyer echoed.

She plans to add an outdoor walk-up window to tap into the area’s foot traffic.

“I live in Paradise Valley,” Geyer said, “so getting to share that experience that I love with people through a lens that they may not be familiar with our like slogan at the company is loving people well through pastries.”

While it’s not yet built, Geyer said the new spot will be a chance to keep growing and showcasing the team of locals she hopes to continue growing as well.
